Research

The Council works closely with UK research institutions and universities to identify projects of value to British Horticulture. Often it provides funds to enable research groups to secure long-term strategic support from national funding streams (AHDB, DEFRA and trade and industry associations) to further their work as well as that of research students and post-doctoral fellows.

For example, the Company is contributing to a PhD research project – The influence of climate change on apple production, which is being run by the University of Reading located at the National Fruit Collection, Brogdale.

Research scientists, research students and others benefit hugely from opportunities to present their work at international conferences and congresses.

From time to time, the Company also offers travel bursaries to those whose work the Awards Council considers appropriate to the challenges confronting fruit production in the UK.
