The Awards Council: Research

The Company maintains strong links with UK research institutions and universities to identify projects of value to British Horticulture. Often it provides funds to enable research groups to secure long term strategic support from national funding streams (AHDB, DEFRA and trade and industry associations) to further their work as well as that of research students and post-doctoral fellows.

Research scientists and others benefit hugely from opportunities to present their work at international conferences and congresses. The Company offers travel bursaries to those scientists and research students whose work the Awards Council considers appropriate to the challenges confronting fruit production in the UK.

From time to time the Company through the Awards Council supports a scholar from the Nuffield Farming Trust who wishes to study a fruit related subject. The programme provides funds and opportunities to enable the scholar to travel all over the world to gather knowledge and information from international leaders in their study subject. The aim of a Nuffield Scholarship is to transform that worldwide experience into practical improvements for the UK Fruit Sector.
